Create your own Fashion Plate and Designs

During this two part course students will start with an in-depth exploration of human anatomy in relation to creating their own fashion plate. Second the study of drapery, materials and textiles in developing fashion designs.

Course Content

This 2 part course in fashion illustration covers the drawing methods, anatomical study, knowledge about the different fabrics and garments information and textile behavior which will enable students to both draw their fashion plate but also to turn ideas into cohesive fashion designs.

Part 1: The Fashion Plate

This course covers the principles and methods for the  creation of the Fashion Plate. It’s contend towards the necessary understanding needed for correct drawing of the Fashion proportion platform of the human figure for fashion use. Participants will first study the human anatomy- a mainstay for all fashion design with special focus on the “distorted” fashion-anatomical concept. Participants will be introduced to 3 different ways of how to create such a Fashion Platform / Plate.

Part 2: Drawing your Fashion Design

This second part of the Fashion  Illustration course will put major focus on the development of the participants’ own fashion designs. During this component students will develop a thorough understanding about the different types of materials and fabrics, the study of human movement in relation to drapery behavior and the fouls of drapery. Students will also become accustomed to fashion drawing techniques and materials using different media namely markers, pencils, and watercolors.

By the end of this course each participant will develop and create his/her own fashion designs.

  • Basic drawing materials
  • Watercolour set and brushes (different sizes)
  • Coloured paper markers,
  • Sketch pad ( A4/A3)
  • Coloured pencils (aquarelle pencils or any other)

Meet the Tutor

Stefan Priehyba
Professional Artist and Sculptor

Stefan, is a professional artist and sculptor who has devoted a life to immersing himself in the study of Human Anatomy, Geometry and the mathematical language behind Design in Fine Arts, product design and also within the costume and fashion scenarios.

Having worked within the film industry for most of his artistic professional career, since he was just 21 Stefan, made a significant name for himself as a leading sculptor, prop-maker and designer in the huge blockbuster film productions including: The Chronicles of NarniaGame of ThronesHellboyAgora, Sinbad (TV series) & Assassin’s Creed among others.

Stefan, has been academically involved and lectured at the University of Fine Arts in Slovakia, and locally at the Malta Institute of Fine Arts (MCAST).
