Digital Storytelling workshop in Stop Motion Animation

Stop Motion animation is one of the oldest yet most creative animation and visual storytelling techniques to be used in cinematography. Combining ART, MOTION and visual NARRATION it makes for an optimal creative experience for young and budding filmmakers! It is also a FUN process during which young learners can learn what it takes to create compelling stories that engage viewers, collaborate and learn how to use technology in an educational and learning environment.

What is Stop Motion Animation?

Stop-motion animation is one of the oldest forms of visual storytelling in cinematography that conjure up the illusion of movement by combining art, motion and metaphor to convey an idea. It’s also really fun to create, as 15+ first-time animators recently discovered during a mini workshop which was held during our summer art course.

During this workshop your child will learn:


 Creative Story Telling:  Students will have the opportunity to progress from idea to story boarding and learn the secrets of captivating visual storytelling: Story Plot, Characterization, Setting, Point of View, Climax of the story, Resolution, Conclusion and Theme-setting

 Story Visualizing: Learn how to visualize and turn their written stories into a 2D visual Story Board;

 Modelling and Animation: Acquire practical skill while molding and sculpting their own 3D miniature models, design-characters and sets

 Shooting and Filming- how to create and Direct a short film – in Stop Motion Animation;

Progress from idea generation to story boarding and learn the secrets of captivating storytelling: Story Plot, Characterization, Setting, Point of View, Climax of the story, Resolution, Conclusion and Theme-setting

Apply sound and different lighting techniques to their own short-film;

Discover new perspectives of using digital technology to creatively capture and translate their story into a short film;

Mirjana  | Post Media Artist  

Mirjana Batnic

Mirjana has been teaching throughout many different workshops both abroad and in Malta for number of years. She has been working with all age groups. She has done graduate studies in Fine Arts, postgraduate studies in Video and New Media Arts, and was a postgraduate researcher at Media and Communications Department and at the Department of Philosophy. She speaks English, Croatian, French and Slovene language.

WATCH: 4 short films which were created by a group of 15 young artists this summer.
